Thinking Through Second Corinthians is something of an intermediate format between the study guides that are mostly questions and are divided into 13 or 26 lessons for use in Bible classes – and more recent books in the Thinking Through the Bible series that became more like conventional commentaries. It retains the questions to guide study and discussion, and the 13-lesson divisions; however, the notes have become so robust that the book serves as a concise commentary, as well.
Study Chapters 1–7 to get inside the great heart of the apostle Paul, understanding his motives and methods perhaps as never before. Nowhere else has Paul laid his heart so bare as he explains the glory of gospel ministry. Though we cannot be apostles, with Paul as our model we can learn to bring the heart of an apostle to our own work for Christ. Study Chapters 8 and 9 to see giving as a manifestation of grace, a blessing to giver as well as recipient. Study Chapters 10–13 to learn how to deal with false teachers who seek to discredit the apostles and their teaching and thus to draw away the church after them.
